Duplicate Cleaner can help you manage disk contents by finding redundant files. The program has a nice tabbed interface, and if you follow the order of the tabs, this will work as a wizard that takes you through the different steps in its workflow: what to find, where to look and what to do with the duplicates.
The product supports three scanning modes: Regular, Image, and Audio, which, as you may have guessed, are intended for different kinds of content. In this respect, the regular mode can find repeated files by examining such attributes as name, date, and size; but, more than just that, it can also actually compare their contents. In image mode, the contents of the pictures are compared so that they can be grouped by their similarity. Likewise, the tool can compare their tags. Finally, in audio mode, it is possible to find similar audio files by their tags.
Fortunately, you can set various search parameters. For example, you are allowed to configure different levels of content similarity. Moreover, you can use date and size filters to exclude or exclude specific files.
After the scan is finished, you can proceed to delete the unneeded files. It is great that duplicate files are organized in numbered groups where similar or identical items can be found. In such cases, it is your task to decide which of the files on the list to keep. Luckily, the program comes with a selection assistant for this purpose. For instance, it facilitates selecting the oldest or the latest file in each group. As for images, it is great that there is a chance to preview them. Not only can the selected files be deleted but also copied to a new location or renamed. However, it is a shame that the tool does not seem to support secure deletion.
All in all, Duplicate Cleaner is certainly one of the best programs of its type around. It comes with multiple features that allow you to find duplicates reliably.
